Duo-Fast

(formerly Fastener Corp.)
Chicago area    1937 - present

Duo-Fast started life in 1937 as Fastener Corporation, manufacturing hand-held staplers and related fasteners. Products were sold under the DUO-FAST brand name which, over time, became so recognized that it was adopted as the corporate name.   Today, Duo-Fast is a leading manufacturer of pneumatic staplers and nailers, as well as hammer tackers.

The only stapler that is of general interest to collectors is the Duo-Fast Pocket stapler; a stapler that is designed to look like a fountain pen.   Based on Henry L Imelmann's patent, this device was manufactured from the early 1950's into the 1970's.

The Pocket Stapler was made with a variety of different colored plastic barrels and was a very popular advertising item.   In fact, these staplers are more commonly found with advertising on them than without.   The stapler usually came in a presentation-style box along with a box of 1000 staples.   The staples for this device are quite small, measuring 1/4" across with 1/8" legs.

You can view the original instruction sheet here.

While these staplers are sought out by stapler collectors and by collectors of specific advertisers, they are not particularly rare.   They can be found unused, with the original box and staples for about $20.
